At WCA, our highest priority continues to be the health and well-being of our customers and staff during an evolving situation. Last night, we learned that one of our drivers has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. As a precaution, the helpers and other drivers who have been in close contact with this driver have been quarantined.
Effective immediately, WCA route personnel are not permitted to collect waste placed outside of containers (extra trash bags that do not fit within the trash container.) However, two bulk items (ex: furniture, mattresses, metal) will be permitted. Also, lawn clippings and tree branches (must be bundled and no longer than four foot) will also be accepted. This safety measure is based on recommendations from public health officials and our commitment to minimize possible employee exposure to the COVID-19 coronavirus. Furthermore, no more recyclables will be collected until further notice.
Given the “Stay At Home” mandates in many of the markets we serve, our communities are facing increased residential trash volumes and overflowing trash containers.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we focus on our goals of providing outstanding essential service, while protecting our employees.
As always, we want to remind our customers that yard waste, household chemicals, construction materials, automotive parts, electronics and related materials cannot be disposed of in WCA containers. For more information contact wcawaste.com or call 855-263-0955.
From the City of Fulshear:
This afternoon WCA sent the City a notice of change in essential services that they are able to provide. The notice is dated March 31, 2020 and is in effect immediately. The notification impacts the City’s Solid Waste scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, 2020 and until further notice.
Based on the information received from WCA this afternoon, and after several questions that we’ve gotten clarifications on, the following is effective starting tomorrow, April 1, 2020, until further notice:
Trash bin only with trash inside bin.
Two bulk items only set out at curb – including items like bundled limbs/tree trimmings and grass clippings or most heavy objects.
Recycle bins/material will NOT be picked up – do not place at curbside.
It is anticipated, WCA will have available a roll-off dumpster, at a location to be announced before the end of the week, to take recycle materials.
To answer and clarify questions that came about using the recycle bin for trash: WCA will NOT empty the recycle bin (yellow lid); drivers identify this bin as recycle materials and have been instructed not to pick it up and empty it.
